Tuesday, February 16, 2010, is being declared “Railroad Day” at the Red Rock Center. The Center will be open 10:00am – 2:00pm with activities for the Open House and Artist’s Reception from 10:30am – 1:30pm. Refreshments, including ‘white bread sandwiches and coffee, will be available. The Artist of the Month at the Red Rock Center Art Gallery for February is John Cartwright from Shoreview, MN, with his Railroad Depot drawings. www.artrail.org. John has been photographing Railroad depots for over 30 years and most of those depots are gone now. John is a “walking history book” of railroad depots in the area and throughout MN, SD, and ND. John will be making a presentation of his photographs and ink drawings at 12:00 noon. His railroad depot prints, which include Fairmont and many other depots in the area, are for sale. Plan to come and share your railroad folklore with John. Also included in the “Railroad Day” will be an ongoing power point presentation of Rail Way Motors pictures from their Centennial celebration; one hundred years of motor cars and people who worked at The Motors (Harsco). Additional displays will include a Railroad print that Lisa Dahl, On The Wall, is sharing with the Red Rock Center for the day and Mike Oltman’s scale model railroad. Lenny Tvedten, MCHS, will be available to talk to at 11:00am about the historical information and train display that is at the Pioneer Museum. If you would like to participate in the “Railroad Day” at the Red Rock Center, contact Barbara Schreier at 507-235-9262 or BarbaraS@redrockcenter.org; www.martincountypreservation.org.
